Suao Logistic Support Command, located in the northern part of Suao Town, which lies on the west edge of the Pacific with majestic peaks, rolling hills and beautiful coastlines, is a place that must be seen to really appreciate. In the year 1969, one of the war games named Ching Cheng 23rd concluded that part of the force of Navy should be transferred to the north-east part of Taiwan for the purposes of the Naval force operation, and the decision was made that Suao provided the ideal setting. In 1970, the new naval base project named "Dragon Pond Plan" was approved by the former President Chang, Kai-sheik and executed by Navy Suao Engineering department on July 1st, 1972. In order to display recognition of the former President Chang, Kai-sheik for his longsighted prospective and contribution, the Navy named it in his honor the "Chong Cheng" Military Port.
For meeting the need of fleet deployment and the best use of the port, as well as to become a central command in battlefield and in logistic support, the Naval Suao Shipyard was established in August, 1978, under the direction of the Naval Logistic Command. On October 1st, 1984, the Navy HQs renamed the Naval Suao Shipyard to be the Naval 5th Shipyard. In September, 1995, Naval Suao Base Command was merged with Naval Flotilla 168. In January, 1997, the Naval 5th Shipyard was promoted to be commanded by a Rear Admiral. On July 1st, 1999, Navy HQs renamed it as Naval Suao Shipyard and merged the gun shop and electronic shop to a new unit named Suao Maintenance Workshop which is under the command of the Naval Combat System Facility.
The strategic location and support capabilities had been upgraded along the east coast of Taiwan, and the Navy HQs renamed the "Naval 5th Shipyard" to be Suao Logistic Support Command in April, 2000. The Command held an establishing ceremony in May, 2000, and the number of employees since then has been increased from 500 to 700. In February, 2008, the Commanding officer was changed to a Captain. We also uphold lots of screening processes that ensure the qualification of our employees.
Finally, Logistics is one of the most important parts of integrated warfare. All of our members in this Command not only understand how difficult the situation is, but also are making a major and worthwhile contribution to this unit. Furthermore, all of us strive to improve our professionalism as well as our education and training knowledge to enhance the productivity in support of the Fleet.
